Computing the Diameter of 17-Pancake Graph Using a PC Cluster
An n-pancake graph is a graph whose vertices are the permutations of n symbols and each pair of vertices are connected with an edge if and only if the corresponding permutations can be transitive by a prefix reversal. Since the n-pancake graph has n! vertices, it is known to be a hard problem to compute its diameter by using an algorithm with the polynomial order of the number of vertices. Fund...
متن کاملBurnt Pancake Problem: New Lower Bounds on the Diameter and New Experimental Optimality Ratios
For the burnt pancake problem, we provide new values of g(−IN ), new hard positions and new experimental optimality ratios.
متن کاملPancake Flipping Is Hard
Pancake Flipping is the problem of sorting a stack of pancakes of different sizes (that is, a permutation), when the only allowed operation is to insert a spatula anywhere in the stack and to flip the pancakes above it (that is, to perform a prefix reversal). In the burnt variant, one side of each pancake is marked as burnt, and it is required to finish with all pancakes having the burnt side d...
متن کاملGreedy Pancake Flipping
We prove that a stack of pancakes can be rearranged in all possible ways by a greedy process: Flip the maximum number of topmost pancakes that gives a new stack. We also show that the previous Gray code for rearranging pancakes (S. Zaks, A New Algorithm for Generation of Permutations BIT 24 (1984), 196-204) is a greedy process: Flip the minimum number of topmost pancakes that gives a new stack.
متن کاملComparing Star and Pancake Networks
Low dilation embeddings are used to compare similarities between star and pancake networks. The pancake network of dimension n, Pn, has n! nodes, one for each permutation, and an undirected edge between permutations (nodes) when some prefix reversal transforms one permutation into the other. The star network of dimension n, Sn, has n! nodes, one for each permutation, and an undirected edge betw...
